We get a lot of questions about this and Plantronics has finally done it. People ask us why they can’t listen to music from their W700 series wireless headset when it’s paired to their mobile device. Now you can! There is a free update available from Plantronics Hub software download that allows integrated A2DP streaming from your mobile phone or tablet! Before you could only get calls through Savi 700, and no streaming media. Now you can do both! It works on W710, W720, W730, W740 and W745.

What is A2DP?

A2DP is Advanced Audio Distribution Profile. It™s a Bluetooth profile that allows for the wireless transmission of stereo audio from an A2DP source. It™s also called Bluetooth Audio Streaming. See list of Bluetooth profiles on Wikipedia.

How Can You Stream Music or Podcasts on Savi W700?

Savi W700 series connects to 3 devices: desk phone, PC via USB cable, and the base pairs via Bluetooth to your mobile device. You can take calls from all 3 sources. If you store music on your mobile device, with the latest Hub software download (free) you can start listening to music on your wireless DECT headset.

Hub software (previously Spokes) enhances the user experience by providing information about the state of your Plantronics audio device, such as mute and battery status. You can select low, medium, or high range to save battery life, and various other settings. You don™t need Hub to use Savi, but some people like to install it. If you don’t have administrative rights, chances are the link will be grayed out and you won’t be able to download it.

Stream music with Savi W700 series

Here are the steps to enable your W700 headset to stream music:

Put your headset in the charger before you do the download. The download will take about 25 minutes. Click on this link to download the free Hub 3.5

After the update, Streaming Audio (A2DP) should be defaulted to œOn. To check this: from Hub in the œSettings dropdown menu select œWireless. Scroll to the bottom – it™s the last item: œStreaming Audio (A2DP). Make sure œOn is selected. Now pair your mobile device to the Savi base by double pressing the Bluetooth icon on the front of base until it™s flashing blue/red. After pairing, press the middle button on the top of Savi base. Go to your music on your device. There you are. Now go get some work done!
